Month 12

Emily turned one today. We can't believe it! She is getting SO close to walking on her own. Over the last couple of days, she's been taking more steps on her own--sometimes 5 or 6 at a time. I think she's on the verge. Her new favorite activity is brushing her teeth. She has her own little toothbrush, and I'll brush her teeth a bit and then hand it over to her. She mainly just gums/sucks on it, and it's very cute.

Looking back at the pictures from this last year, I can't believe how big she is getting. We took one this month of me feeding her, and she looks almost comical on my lap. She is now drinking mostly cow's milk and is down to three bottles a day. We're going to try to replace her two daytime bottles with sippy cups this weekend. We'll see how she does.

She is suddenly very much into reading stories. She used to not sit still, but now she will sit and let me read to her for up to 20 minutes. She like to read some of the stories over and over again, sometimes five times in a row. We subscribe to this board-book magazine called Wild Animal Baby, and those are her new favorites. I'd recommend it to all the new moms out there. It's from the National Wildlife Federation.

The weather is finally starting to warm up, and we've been enjoying walks every night when we get home from work. Emily has also been going to the park a lot with grammie and grampie and Nana (my mom). She likes to climb the steps to the top of the slide and ride down on someone's lap. She is also learning a lot of new words. Here are the words we know she understands:
  • Ear
  • Nose
  • Diaper
  • Mama
  • Dada
  • Poopie (she even does this on command! sorry if that's too much information...)
We're having all of the grandparents over on Saturday to celebrate her birthday. I'll be posting video and pictures from the party sometime next week!
