Emily - January 2011

There are a number of new things to report on the Emily front:

  • She used the big girl potty for the first time on January 1st. She managed to go both #1 and #2! We were so proud! How bad is it that I took a picture of her on the potty to commemorate the moment?
  • She has learned a number of new words. On my birthday, she learned the color gold. She says “Go-go”. Yesterday, she started saying “ba-ba” for bath. She also started saying “no-no-no” to my mom’s cat, Abbey, when she did something she wasn’t supposed to do. Luckily, she hasn’t started saying no to us yet, but it is only a matter of time!
  • She got a Fisher Price Little People home for Christmas, and she loves playing with the characters that came with it. She calls the woman “guh-guh”, the man “da-da”, and the baby “baby”. For whatever reason, she always wants them to sit at the table together to eat, and consistently places them there (see picture). These days, she wants to relate everything to a person. She even points to pictures of buildings in her books and assigns them to be mama, dada, guh-guh, pa-pa, nana, or Sarah. It is pretty cute.
  • She has a new fascination with throwing things away. If she sees a piece of trash, like a gum wrapper or scrap of paper, she has to pick it up and then take it to the nearest trash can to throw away.
  • She’s just getting over a very long sickness, and is taking antibiotics. For whatever reason, she LOVES the taste of her medicines. We have everything flavored with grape, and we can even get her to eat whatever food she doesn’t want to finish by promising her medicine at the end. Little does she know that she would have gotten the medicine anyway!
  • Since we turned her car seat around to face forward in October, she is really starting to pay attention to things as we drive. Her new favorite thing is green traffic lights. She gets very excited waiting for the light to turn green, and exclaims “gra-gra” as soon as it does.

It’s pretty amazing how much she changes every day!
