Week 19

As we had been having a bit of trouble with Emily getting enough sleep, at our last visit our pediatrician recommended the book “Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child”. I went out and bought it last Wednesday and started reading. We’ve made some changes based on the book, and boy have they made a difference! For the last three nights, Emily has slept for 12 hours straight!!! Yes, you read that right—TWELVE hours straight!

By reading the book, we learned that we were not putting her to bed early enough and that her late bedtime was causing her to become overtired and unable to fall asleep. We were very doubtful when we first read this, as we figured that putting her to bed earlier would simply mean that she would wake up earlier. So far, that has not been the case at all. We are just loving all of this extra “free” time in the evenings. The only downside is that we don’t get to play with her for very long after we get home from work since she goes to bed between 6:30 and 7:00. However, sleep is really important, so I’m willing to see her a little less if it means she is healthier. Plus, we still have the weekends, Mondays, and every morning to spend time with her.

The book also deals with naps and sleep training, which we are working on as well. I would definitely recommend this book to all moms and moms-to-be out there. I only wish we had discovered it earlier!

Once again, we didn’t take many pictures this week. These show her playing with her ball that Grandma and Grandpa Palla got for her. She has one at their house too, and she loves to play with it. Pictures are on Flickr at:
