Emily is now 15 1/2 months old and she is changing every day. The first (non-change) thing to note is that she is still not talking. Last week we were at the grocery store and saw another baby who looked to be a few months younger than Emily sitting in another cart. We told Emily to say hi to the baby, to which she responded by waving. She is a big fan of waving. When the other baby noticed her, he pointed and said "Baby!" clear as day. Emily just stared back at him, mute. The other baby continued chanting "Baby" for the next 2 minutes as he was pushed through the aisles. We are just waiting for the day that Emily says something other than "ma-ma", "da-da", "na-na", or "car-car". She has starting babbling a lot more the past week or so, and is doing something that sounds a little bit like a yodel…
Speaking of her love of waving, she does something we like to call the machine-gun wave. It goes a little something like this: Emily lifts both arms straight up above her head, she then starts wildly waving with both hands and rotates her upper body from side to side. It is pretty cute.
One of her new favorite games is peek-a-boo. She thinks that if her eyes are covered we can't see her. Even cuter is that she now waves goodbye, covers her eyes with both hands, and then peeks through her fingers when she thinks we aren't looking and covers her eyes again really quickly if we turn toward her. We of course play along and say to each other, "Where's Emily? She was just here! Now I can't find her anywhere!" Then she removes her hands and we exclaim, "There she is!" Oh, what fun!
Something I keep forgetting to mention that she likes to do when eating is to place a piece of food on the lid of her sippy cup. She then picks up the cup and places the lid to her mouth and tilts it to slide the food in. We're not sure what this does for her, but she seems to like it.
Despite the fact that she isn't talking, she seems to be learning her letters. One of her toys has all of the letters of the alphabet printed on it, and if you ask here where M, D, or E is, she can tell you. She also knows that M stands for Mama, D stands for Dada, and E stand for Emily. We're starting her early!
She had her 15-month doctor's appointment, and we found out (big surprise) that she is 33 1/8 inches tall, which puts her in the 99th percentile for 15 month olds and makes her the average height of a 22 month old. We also discovered that two of her molars had come in, and we didn't even know it. The fact that that painful process had happened without us being aware just underscores what a sweet, good-natured baby she is. We absolutely can't imagine our life without her and we are enjoying every single minute!
