Months 16 & 17

She speaks!!! Okay, well only one real word, but it's a definite word: BABY. It's about halfway between "baby" and "bebee", but it is super cute. I totally did not think that would be her first word, but it was. She now totally does what I was saying other babies were doing to her—pointing at them and chanting baby. I'm loving it! Oh, and so I don't forget, she first said it on July 28th at my mom's house.
Some of her new tricks:

  • If you tell her to spin around, she will look over her shoulder and start spinning in a circle.
  • If you ask her what an elephant says, she'll hold her arm up to her face and extend it straight out while making noise.
  • She can blow kisses now. She used to just hold her hand up to her mouth, but she now also brings it down to "throw" the kiss.
  • She can finally do the shape sorter on her own. As of about a week ago, she now picks up a shape, turns the wheel to find the correct hole, and then puts it in. What a little genius! ;)

We just returned from our first out of town trip with her, and she was SUCH a good girl. We were afraid of the car ride, but we brought a new coloring book and crayons, along with her favorite CDs, and it went really well. We just drove up to the south side of Chicago, so it was about 2 hours in the car. She was also great at the hotel and slept from 6:30 until 7:15 the next morning, despite the fact that she was probably freezing because we had forgotten to check the thermostat before we went to bed and it was set at 66! She also sat through a wedding ceremony and breakfast at a restaurant without having any major meltdowns. We can't believe how good she was!
